Nautical and Nice

Over the Fourth of July weekend, I hope you were able to take a patriotic trip to the shore. Whether the lake or the ocean, this time of year is the perfect time to get nautical and set sail on the water.

A glamorous cruise ship of the past like the stately Queen Elizabeth and vintage boats with gleaming brass and wood take me back to a time when sailing was taken seriously.

The vintage Riva cruiser below may be small, but it packs a sophisticated punch with its mix of wood finishes, fabulous turquoise leather, and polished silver accents.

If you prefer to cruise in something a bit more spacious, there’s a yacht out there to fit any lifestyle, and budget. And no expense is spared when it comes to the interiors, which can be as finely appointed as any Beverly Hills abode. A prime example is Giorgio Armani’s luxurious yacht,  featured in Architectural Digest.

Even the most modest of sailing vessels can make me nostalgic for summer sailing, like these at Camp Mondamin.
