There is nothing that soothes my soul more than being in my garden. It’s the first week of spring and small shoots are coming up to remind me that it’s almost time to lose myself in blooms, warm soil, and greenery.
My mother taught me that a Southern garden should be well tended but sometimes left to its own devices, not too overdone, and not too overgrown.
My uncle’s garden in Savannah, above, has been a source of inspiration for my own plantings and designs. It was used as a set for the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
I’ve seen the care my mother put into her own garden, above. I’ve seen each piece planted, and watched it grow into its beauty.
When I start on my garden in the spring, it’s more than just plants and flowers that reawaken and bloom. I luxuriate in the light, and I grow.
